Art – Professional Inspiration

When I was in primary school, I so enjoyed reading that my dream was to read all the books in the library. I also developed a love of music beginning with the organ and piano, had taken up Japanese traditional dance as a kindergartner, and came to appreciate movies and other art forms, as well – all with the encouragement of my mother and father. My love of the arts eventually became the starting point for my professional work.

アートは人間こそが持つ独特の想像力が生み出すもので、日常生活を豊かで楽しいものにするだけでなく、そこからインスパイアーされたことは仕事にも反映します。そして言葉を超えたコミュニケーション手段としての意味も大きいと思います。
Art, in all its forms, is the product of an imaginative power that is uniquely human. As a medium of communication, it goes beyond words. For me, art not only makes daily life richer and more enjoyable, it is also a source of inspiration that I reflect in my work.
My musical training, for example, was invaluable to me in creating music instruction videos featuring performers who had worked with Guns N’ Roses, Earth Wind and Fire, and Lenny Kravitz, and was the key to understanding communication in the form of traditional gamelan music during my time as a volunteer video production instructor in Indonesia.

Memo Fanatic

memoI have a habit of taking memos on everything including simple everyday events, work-related matters, and travel experiences. I’ve been keeping memos like this since I was a child and have now accumulated several dozen notebooks full of them. Referring back to notes I took on an interview I did two years ago or on the names of foods I ate in the Himalayas, for example, allows me to recall events with vivid clarity. I also keep a diary in which I write more extensively, but the short memos I jot down have been very useful for work. (Left: Notes taken while traveling in the Himalayas)
